Dr. Christos Vlachos
Dr. Vlachos holds dental degrees from the University of Athens, Greece and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). In addition, he has received a master’s degree in occlusion and the treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (1984) and completed his specialty training in orthodontics at UAB (1986).
Dr. Vlachos served as a full-time faculty member at the UAB Department of Orthodontics from 1992 to 1997, teaching undergraduate, graduate and continuing education courses in orthodontics and occlusion. Since 1997, he has maintained private orthodontic practices in Homewood, Pell City and Calera, while teaching part-time at UAB. In addition to orthodontic care for children and adults, Dr. Vlachos offers treatment to patients with TMJ problems as well as obstructive sleep apnea.
He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Southern Association of Orthodontists, UAB Orthodontic Alumni Association, American Dental Association, Alabama Dental Association and the Birmingham District Dental Society.
Dr. Deborah Sema
Dr. Sema has practiced dentistry for over 15 years. She is a graduate of Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 1994. She remained to complete a year of Advanced Education in General Dentistry before entering the master’s program in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, which she completed in 1998.
Dr. Sema is active in her local and dental community. She is a member of Homewood Rotary Club, and the Homewood and Calera’s Chamber of Commerce. Her professional memberships include:

Dr. André Ferreira
Dr. Ferreira is originally from Brazil and a second-generation orthodontist. He has been practicing dentistry since 1991, when he graduated dental school. He moved to the United States in 1994 where he completed a three year orthodontic residency program at the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. Dr. Ferreira was invited to join the UAB orthodontic faculty in 2000 with the responsibility of teaching dental students and residents the art and science of Orthodontics.
In addition to classroom teaching, he managed the Orthodontic Clinic at UAB, which has over 1200 patients a year in active treatment. His academic career has led to publication of several scientific papers, book chapters, national and international lectures on the most current topics and techniques in the field of orthodontics. He plans to continue teaching part time at UAB when he is not here planning and providing you or your children with outstanding orthodontic care.
